A Stronger Thorold. A Brighter Future.
Priorities for Thorold
Mission
Kamal’s approach is simple: listen carefully, ask the right questions, use City resources responsibly and make decisions with both today’s needs and Thorold’s long-term future in mind.
Experience That Informs the Work
Kamal brings more than 30 years of experience in education and leadership, spanning teaching, university education, school administration and senior leadership across the public and private sectors.
He began his professional career working with children and families before moving into education, where he went on to serve as a teacher, university lecturer, principal, associate superintendent and vice-president of student affairs.
Across these roles, Kamal has worked with different perspectives, managed resources, addressed complex problems and taken responsibility for decisions affecting students, staff, families and communities.
The Eight Priorities
Children, Youth & Families
Strong communities provide children and families with places to learn, play, participate and feel connected.
Kamal supports strong libraries, parks, playgrounds, recreation, community programs, arts and cultural opportunities, and initiatives that help young people participate in their community.
Supporting Local Business
Local businesses contribute to Thorold’s economy, employment and community character.
Kamal supports a municipal environment where entrepreneurs and independent businesses can grow, responsible new investment is welcomed, and businesses encounter clear processes and fewer unnecessary barriers when working with the City.
Seniors & Age-Friendly Communities
Seniors should be able to remain active, connected and involved in the community.
Kamal supports accessible programs, welcoming public spaces, recreation and social opportunities, safe pedestrian connections, transportation options and planning that considers the needs of Thorold’s older residents.
Responsible Growth & Infrastructure
Thorold is growing, and new development affects more than the area being built.
Kamal supports thoughtful growth that considers existing neighbourhoods alongside the roads, sidewalks, parks, services and community amenities required to support a growing population.
Growth and infrastructure should be planned together.
Responsible City Spending
Every municipal budget requires decisions about where resources are needed and how they can be used effectively.
Kamal’s approach to major spending decisions is to consider four questions:
- What will it cost?
- What value will it provide?
- What are the long-term implications?
- How will results be measured?
Safe, Connected & Accessible Thorold
Residents should be able to move safely and comfortably through Thorold, whether they are walking, cycling, driving or navigating the city with mobility challenges.
Kamal supports continued attention to roads, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, traffic management, accessibility and the quality of Thorold’s public spaces.
Safe & Connected Walking Pathways
A sidewalk should not simply end where people still need to go.
Kamal supports improving Thorold’s pedestrian network by identifying missing or poorly connected sidewalks and pathways and creating better connections between neighbourhoods, parks, schools, shopping areas and community services.
The goal is a pedestrian network that is:
- Safe and well maintained
- Accessible for seniors, families and people with mobility challenges
- Well lit where appropriate
- Connected rather than ending abruptly
- Designed with safe crossings in mind
- Better connected to everyday destinations
- Supportive of walking and active transportation
Better connections make it easier for residents of every age to move through their community.
Thorold’s Character & Heritage
Thorold’s history, architecture, downtown and neighbourhoods give the city an identity of its own.
Kamal supports preserving important elements of Thorold’s heritage while welcoming thoughtful investment and development that contributes positively to the community.
Every Part of Thorold
Thorold is made up of distinct neighbourhoods and communities, each with different experiences, concerns and priorities.
As an at-large Councillor, Kamal would listen to residents across the city and consider how decisions affect Thorold as a whole.
Wherever you live in Thorold, your perspective belongs in the conversation.
A Councillor Who Listens. Leads. Represents.
After more than 30 years in education and community service, Kamal knows that effective leadership is about more than making promises.
It means listening carefully, asking the right questions, managing resources responsibly and working with others to find practical solutions.
Let’s build a Thorold where:
- Every community is represented.
- Every voice is heard.
- Children have opportunities.
- Families feel supported.
- Seniors feel valued.
- Businesses can thrive.
- Growth is responsible.
- And every taxpayer knows their voice matters.
Experienced Leadership. Responsible Decisions. A Stronger Thorold.
